Baramulla, Dec 28 (KNO): Following heavy snowfall across Kashmir’s plains, the administration in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday announced that major roads have been cleared and are now operational. The snowfall disrupted normal life, affecting several water supply schemes and power lines in some areas. Public transport was off the roads due to slippery conditions. Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that snow clearance operations were intensified, and major roads, including the Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri and Tangmarg-Gulmarg routes, were cleared and made operational during the morning hours. "Snow clearance operations are progressing at a good pace, and we are committed to clearing all roads by evening. Major roads, including Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri, Baramulla-Handwara-Kupwara, and Sopore-Kupwara, were cleared during the morning hours, while snow clearance is ongoing in other areas," he said. The DC said that the administration is working tirelessly to restore essential services such as power, water, and others. "Be it PHE, PDD, R&B, CEO GDA, Mechanical Division, or the District Police, all departments are working tirelessly to ensure seamless restoration," he said. Regarding power supply, the DC informed the news agency-KNO that 163 11kV feeders are functional, and restoration work is underway for the remaining 40 feeders. He added that two 33kV feeders, Baba Reshi and Mirgund, are affected, but restoration efforts are in full swing and expected to be completed by evening. Water supply restoration is also being prioritized, with manpower actively working to address the nine affected schemes, he said. The DC further mentioned that hospital services across the district remain intact, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare facilities. Additionally, around 400 tourists in Gulmarg were provided overnight accommodation amid the snowfall. It is pertinent to mention that the Baramulla administration has established a winter helpline for emergencies. Residents can seek assistance by contacting +91 1952 234 343—(KNO)
